Experts: Scammers hack accounts in messengers to get money
MOSCOW, Dec 26 (PRIME) -- Scammers have started hacking Russians’ accounts in popular messengers more often ahead of the New Year and asking their contacts for money, experts told PRIME on Tuesday.
Alla Khrapunova, a supervisor of platform Moshelovka, said that perpetrators break into messengers through a mailout of messages with a malicious link disguised, for example, under a request to vote for a child.
Scammers try to get a one-time code needed to tie an account to one more device, Sergei Golovanov, chief expert at antivirus maker Kaspersky, said.
Perpetrators send out to the victim’s contacts a request to lend some money with a photo of a bank card with the name of the victim on it.
